Sustainability has been a core focus for BB Swimmies since our earliest days. When starting this new collection, we knew sustainability and eco-friendly solutions that align with our vision would be at the forefront of each decision. This collection is made of the highest quality recycled fabric, is 100% single-use plastic free, shipped in biodegradable mailers, and produced with an ethical manufacturer. 

Recycled, Eco-Friendly Fabrics

Our swimwear is constructed out of 100% regenerated nylon; Econyl, and Repreve. All dyes used for printing are OEKO-TEX, and GOTS approved. This means consumers can be sure our product is safe, and made in a renewable fashion.

• Econyl

Econyl is a regenerated nylon product that is made from 100% ocean and landfill waste. This includes items such as “ghost” fishing nets left as sea, industrial plastics, and fabrics scraps from manufacturing companies. 

Fishing nets, which are constructed of nylon, when left at sea are known as “ghost nets”. Experts estimate there are roughly 640,000 tons of these nets currently in our oceans. A nearly impossible material to break down, it is estimated these nets can last in the ocean for up to 500 years, tangling and killing millions of marine animals each year. 

Traditional nylon, which is used for swimwear fabric, is made from drilled crude oil, is one of the most toxic fabrics to produce, and essentially impossible to break down. 

Econyl helps combat these issues by taking materials such as “ghost nets” and regenerating the nylon into a new product that can be part of a circular economy. 

The environmental impact to creating Econyl is also significantly lesser impact than traditional nylon. Econyl uses nylon that is already in existence, which significantly lowers the environmental impact. Econyl regenerated nylon reduces the global warming effects of nylon up to 90%, as well as halving CO2 emissions from traditional oil-made nylon.

• Repreve:

Repreve is the other fabric used in our collections. Repreve is constructed from repurposed recycled materials, including plastic bottles. 

Each year, billions of water bottles go into landfills. Now Repreve is offering a solution. They have created a 100% regenerated nylon fabric constructed from recycled materials, including plastic bottles.

100% Plastic Free:

BB Swimmies is 100% single-use plastic free. No plastic is used in any stage of production, handling, or shipping. Each item is individually packed in biodegradable bags made from Cassava Starch. Once discarded, the bag will decompose within one day of contact with water or landfill. Our shipping mailers are also biodegradable, and break down within 3-6 months.
